The remote access service field is a highly competitive and rapidly changing business. With new technologies emerging daily, service providers and corporate enterprises need cost effective tools to smooth the integration of new and existing services. They also need to attain increased overall efficiency and profitability by more effectively managing and tracking network access and usage. Alcatel-Lucent recognizes that Global network operators, local and regional ISPs, enterprises, educational institutions, telephone companies, PTTs and CLECs each have their own specialized requirements. The Alcatel-Lucent line of 8950 AAA (Authentication, Authorization, Accounting), formerly VitalAAA and NavisRadius, servers represents a departure from the way AAA services have been historically designed. Up until now no single AAA server architecture could possibly meet every need of every customer. The choice has been between over featured 'meets all needs (but not very well)' servers, under-featured "we'll make do" servers or do-it-yourself projects. 8950 AAA is the latest release in the Alcatel-Lucent line of commercial AAA servers. This release builds on the flexible and extensible PolicyFlow plug-in architecture and adds an expanded graphic interface for overall server management and maintenance of user accounts. New in this release is the PolicyAssistant. Now most users will be able to have 8950 AAA up and authenticating by filling in a few simple forms. 8950 AAA also includes many new plug-ins and significant extensions to the PolicyFlow logic.
